A Christmas wreath is a very commonly recognised symbol of the festive period. They are used in homes and other settings as decorations on doors, walls or tables. With so many different designs to choose from, why not engage your little ones in a seasonal craft activity and make your own wreath this year! In this blog we share 3 very different designs from a simple pom pom wreath to a natural wreath and a collaborative handprint wreath for you to try with your little ones!
1. Pom Pom Wreath
To make your pom pom wreath you will need:
To make the Pom Pom Wreath:

- Start by selecting your pom poms – will you go for a festive theme? We chose colours heavily associated with Christmas like red, green and white and added some glitter pom poms in for good measure
- If using a paper plate, fold it in half and cut out a semi-circle from the centre to create the base of your wreath
- Next add a dab of glue to each pom pom and secure it to your base. You might need to hold these in place until the glue has dried
- Continue adding pom poms until you have filled the base
- Finally add a ribbon round your wreath and then it is ready to hang!
2. Natural Wreath
To make your wreath you will need:
- Paper plates or polystyrene wreath circles
- A selection of evergreen shrubbery and leaves
- Glue
- Ribbon
- To start your natural wreath, wrap up warm and head outside to collect your natural resources. Try and find evergreens such as holly or pine but be careful of the sharp spines! Evergreens will mean your wreath stays beautiful and green for longer!
- Once you have your collection of natural resources head back inside to start the craft!
- If you are using a paper plate, fold it in half and cut out a semi-circle
- Add a generous layer of PVA glue to the base of your wreath
- Add your natural leaves and resources and hold in place until dry
- Finally, add a length of ribbon to your wreath and you’re done!

3. Handprint Wreath
This craft is a fantastic one for a school or group setting as each child can get involved!
You will need:
- Paper plates or polystyrene wreath circles
- Coloured card or paper
- A pencil
- Glue
- Scissors
- Ribbon

- Begin by asking each child to draw round their hand on a sheet of green coloured paper or card (try and use different shade of green for added effect)
- Next, carefully cut out the hand prints
- Then, take your red card and cut out several circles – these will be your holly berries
- If you are using a paper plate, fold it in half and cut out a semi-circle
- Finally, glue each of the green hand prints onto the base of your wreath layered one on top of another and then add your berries
- Add a length of ribbon to the wreath and it is ready to hang!
